The economies of dog ownership
Anne | January 10, 2010It is safe to say owning a dog is not free. However, with a little creativity, you can get your money’s worth out of your best friend.
Save gallons of hot water. With proper and consistent training, most dogs will come to accept if not relish a job as a dishwashing prewash cycle.
No need to purchase reusable grocery bags. You will need the environmentally unfriendly plastic sacks to remove the “doo” your dog will deposit in the most public of places. And – be honest with yourself. How often do those reusable bags actually make it from your kitchen to the car and into the store?
Dolly assists in heating bills
Lower your heating bill. With a normal body temperature of over 100 degrees and the ability to sleep 16 hours or more a day, a dog or three can help get you through the coldest night.
Oh, so true, on all three counts. You’ve given me a chuckle this morning. Great way to start the day. Economical entertainment, too!
I have to agree on the heat. Brutus our small dog was specifically trained to lie at my feet to keep them warm while I work. He is like one big fuzzy slipper!
I would have to disagree on the entire economy issue though. My service dog grooming bill is enough to make me want to cry. Good thing I have such loving canine friends to remind me that no matter the dollar amount, their worth is beyond measure
Love the dishwasher! Lilly is the best cleaner, I have a wonderful picture of her as a puppy standing in the door, lets see if I can find that picture. Yup, its on my old Mac, here is the link to it. There are many more of her cleaning pans after family feasts, but this one is the cutest.

Hahahaha. I don’t own a dog — for asthma reasons — but I thoroughly enjoyed this post. If I had a dog I’d love it to death. And stay warm besides.

Our Am Staff’s nickname is “Prewash”. He loves to help lick the dished as we put them in the dishwasher.
